New York City Criminal Court
Often when people refer to New York City they are referring to Manhattan but in actuality it refers to the five boroughs Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island and Brooklyn. Contending with any of the New York City Criminal Courts can be an unsettling process. To that end we have put this information page together with the hopes it will inform and educate you. The New York City Criminal Courts hear three criminal classifications of criminal cases violations, misdemeanors and felonies. The types of criminal cases can involve anything from the Penal Law such as Grand Larceny, Robbery, or even a sex crime such as Possession of Child Pornography. Further, the Criminal Court covers VTL cases such as DWI matters both felony and misdemeanor, 511.1 driving with a suspended license as a criminal charge for Reckless driving. In addition to these cases the New York Criminal Court oversees all matters that involve a defendant being returned on a warrant. Please note that all New York City Traffic Ticket matters are handled by the local traffic courts (for additional information-click on the aforementioned link). In misdemeanor cases, the court handles the case from the arrest to the initial Criminal Court appearance at the Arraignment all the way through to trial. It also handles felonies at the pre-indictment level. From there, felony matters will be sent to the Supreme Court for Grand Jury action. New York City Criminal Court:
The New York City Criminal Court has three (3) locations:
The New York City (Manhattan) Criminal Court is located in the New York Criminal Building at 100 Centre Street. The Court building is located is near Leonard Street and Franklin Street, one block from Worth Street. This court is the main location for all criminal cases.
The second location is at 346 Broadway, between Worth and Leonard Street. This court is considered a satellite court and deals only with misdemeanor cases.
A third satellite court is at Midtown Community Court, located at 314 W 54th Street. This court deals only with misdemeanor cases.
Court Hours (Arraignments-excluding Desk Appearance Tickets):
Monday through Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Thursday through Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Court Hours for Desk Appearance Tickets (DATs):
Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (excluding holidays).

Public transportation is highly recommended when going to court (parking is extremely limited).

For the 100 Centre Street location: take the #4 or 5 train to Brooklyn Bridge Station; Take the #6 train, or the N, R, or C train to Canal Street; Take the #1train to Franklin Street; or the #1, 6 or 15 bus line which are located nearby.
New York City Supreme Court:
The Supreme Court is comprised of two buildings. One is located at 100 Centre Street (see further information below).
The other is located at 111 Centre Street, on the southwest corner of Centre and White Street.
Court Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Public Parking: There is public parking (metered) available across the street from the 100 Centre Street location.
Directions: For either location take #4 or #5 train to Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall Station. Take #6 train, A,E,M,J,N,R, or C train to Canal Street. Take the #1 train to Franklin St., or the M-1, M-6, M-9, M-15, M-22 and M-101 bus lines.
